UV Index API

All of our Weather API return UV Index for forecasts, and current weather. This UV Index now accurately accounts for many of the features that impact the short-wave solar radiation (UV) flux, and the impact of UV on one's skin! The Weather API UV Index now factors in the Earth's tilt, upper atmosphere aerosol concentration, sky opacity, and more!

UV Index

The Weather API uses the UV Index scale adopted by the US EPA, and established by the World Health Organization. It is a scale that starts at 0 and goes to 11+, and it is derived from the aggregate incoming short-wave (UV) radiation.

UV is important to forecast for correctly, as it can have a significant impact on a person's health. For example,
with a UV index of 8-9 a person with fair skin can receive a sunburn in less than 15 minutes without appropriate protection!

Our UV Index forecast (provided via the UV Index field in our Weather API) can provide you, or your users with the tool necessary to prepare for a very sunny day!
